Assistant Athletic Director
STRATEGIC COMMUNICATION
- Develop, implement, and direct comprehensive communication strategies to enhance support for Forester Athletics among the campus community and external stakeholders.
- Market our 25 varsity athletic programs, F.A.N. Club, Forester Recreation, Club Sports, Intramurals, and Physical Education.
- Create and execute an annual communication plan incorporating the athletics website, social media platforms, and print materials.
- Responsible for all Forester Athletics social media accounts, including daily postings.
- Manage, guide, train, and evaluate department staff in marketing and brand management.
- Review sport-specific social media accounts to ensure coaches are active and adhere to departmental standards.
- Oversee and manage key communications and marketing projects throughout the year.
- Manage the development of special media content and projects (end-of-year athletic highlight video, Boomers, etc.).
- Work with student staff to acquire B-roll footage of all teams (pregame, locker room, game day, etc.).
- Create departmental content featuring sport-specific personalities (Coach Spotlight, Senior Spotlight, etc.).
- Direct athletics on-campus printed marketing materials (posters, postcards, flyers, A-frames, etc.).
- Oversee and coordinate Forester Features and Forester Athlete of the Week.
- Coordinate with the Office of Communications and Marketing on key recruitment materials.
- Story It, sport specific recruitment brochures, departmental marketing pieces, etc.
- Assist in the oversight of the Department Graphics Team.
- Manage requests for program specific/department graphics.
- Hire, schedule and manage student workers assigned to the graphics team.
WEBCASTING AND VIDEOBOARD OPERATIONS
- Execute and oversee the department’s webcasting of home contests, including hiring, training, and scheduling student staff (camera operators, producers, and broadcasters).
- Provide on-site supervision and support during all home broadcasts.
- Create and coordinate broadcast enhancements, including scoreboard features, graphics, coaches’ shows, and player interviews.
- Enhance weekly scripts for announcers by providing information on campus events, FAOTW, sport-specific content such as statistical leaders, conference standings, etc.
- Direct and manage the videoboard content and operations, including training and scheduling student workers.
- Oversee video equipment budget, inventory, and distribution.
ADMINSTRATION
- Assist the Director of Athletics with all departmental searches and staff onboarding.
- Develop a cross-training model to ensure streamlined gameday operations between broadcasting and sports information staff.
- Support and assist in annual departmental fundraising efforts.
- Assist in the completion and submission of annual NCAA and departmental reports.
- Partner with the Director of Athletics, VP for Athletics and Career Advancement and F.A.N. Club Coordinator to support the day-to-day operations of the F.A.N. Club.
DEPARTMENTAL SPONSORSHIPS
- Develop and execute a strategic plan for annual departmental sponsors, including but not limited to:
- Hotel partners
- Restaurant sponsorships
- Webcasting and digital program sponsorships
- A.N. Club Golf Outing sponsorships
CONTRIBUTING MEMBER OF THE ATHLETIC STAFF
- Uphold the mission and values of Lake Forest College by serving as a positive campus and community ambassador.
- Support the mission of the department: A Tradition of Excellence in academics, athletics, community, and career success.
- Demonstrate teamwork, proactive communication, and cooperation within the Forester Community.
- Attend all campuswide and departmental staff meetings.
- Assume additional administrative duties, as assigned.
*This position is expected to work frequently on nights and weekends throughout the academic year (August-May)
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred.
- Three years of experience working in an intercollegiate athletic department, athletics setting, or related field.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency with computers and media, including Microsoft suite, Adobe Creative suite, broadcasting, social media platforms, and video editing.
- Ability to manage and meet multiple established communication timelines effectively.
- Previous experience managing and supervising professional and student staff.
- An understanding and appreciation of a small liberal arts college environment, NCAA Division III athletics, and the importance of campus integration.
