Process for Requesting Accommodations: Student Life
Housing Accommodations
Beginning in the fall of 2014, Lake Forest College instituted an on-campus residency requirement for all students for their first three years. For more information, please contact the Office of Residence Life.
For new students:
Make sure you have completed the necessary paperwork for the Office of Residence Life. Those who indicate the intent to live on campus will be contacted to complete a housing application.
The application for housing includes the option to indicate a need for a housing accommodation. After indicating the need for an accommodation, briefly describe your anticipated need. You will be provided with the Verification for Need for Accessibility Services form, which you and your evaluator should complete and return.
Residence Life staff will make every effort to honor both your need for an accommodation and your request for room type, roommates, and/or preferred campus, but your approved accommodation will be the priority in your housing assignment.
For returning students:
Please follow the guidelines and timeline for applying for your residence hall room for the following year. If you have not previously submitted a Verification for Need for Accessibility Services form, you may be asked to submit one before you can move forward in the request process.
Please note that any student approved for a housing accommodation will be offered a room assignment that will meet the student’s need, though it may not meet the student’s preference(s). The student has the right to turn down the residence hall room accommodation, but the student does so at his/her own risk. A student who turns down a housing accommodation and who later requests a room change because of an accommodation will not be able to automatically move to the front of the queue.
For a residency requirement exemption or release from the housing contract (as an accommodation):
There may be a reason, based on a disability or medical condition, for which a student cannot reside on campus. In such circumstances, a student may apply for an exemption from Lake Forest College’s residency requirement by contacting the Office of Residence Life for the necessary forms, which will include completing the Verification for Need for Accessibility Services form.
Dietary Accommodations
Students who reside on campus are required to purchase a meal plan. For more information and to learn about different meal plan options, please contact the Office of Residence Life.
For a meal plan exemption (as an accommodation):
There may be a reason, based on a disability or medical condition, for which a student’s dietary needs cannot be met through on-campus food service. In such circumstances, a residential student may apply for an exemption from Lake Forest College’s meal plan requirement by completing the Verification for Need for Accessibility Services form. Many needs can be met and coordinated by Parkhurst, our food service provider; meeting with a representative of Parkhurst’s staff and/or our dietician may be necessary before a meal plan exemption is granted.
Parking Accommodations
The Department of Public Safety issues parking permits to commuter students and to junior and senior students who live on campus. For more information, please visit Public Safety’s site on parking.
For a parking permit (as an accommodation):
There may be a reason, based on a disability or medical condition, for which a student who is not otherwise eligible for a parking permit needs access to a vehicle on campus. In such circumstances, a student may apply for a parking permit by completing the Verification for Need for Accessibility Services form.
