Dr. Edward Whipple has been appointed Interim Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students effective Monday, President Jill M. Baren announced today.

Whipple was identified through a qualified pool from The Registry, a firm specializing in interim higher education leaders. He brings over 28 years of experience across five institutions leading and transforming student affairs divisions to align with institutional missions. While he has experience at colleges and universities of all sizes and types, Whipple said his roots and passion lie with the liberal arts.

Whipple holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Willamette University, a Master of Arts in teaching from Northwestern University, and a Doctor of Philosophy from Oregon State University. He retired from Willamette University in 2020 as the Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students and recently completed an interim role at Boise State University.

“As the College embarks on our strategic framework rollout this fall, Dr. Whipple will work alongside college senior leadership to ensure that student services and programs are intentional, inclusive, and complement the academic program,” President Baren said.

While not a candidate for the permanent role, “Dr. Whipple’s presence is to ensure continuity and high quality in all domains of student affairs until a national search is completed for our next leader in this area,” she said.

Whipple will join the Forester community remotely on Monday, July 24 and will be on campus full time beginning Monday, August 1. Whipple’s office will be in Rosemary House on South Campus and his email address is ewhipple@lakeforest.edu.
