Hometown News Releases

For Lake Forest College students and their families

Congratulations on your success at Lake Forest College! The Office of Communications and Marketing encourages all members of the Class of 2024 to share news of this milestone with their hometown newspaper(s) and websites.

To make this easy for you, we have prepared news release templates that you may customize by including your personal details.

Here’s how to write and send a news release:
  1. Download the appropriate news release template as a Word document or as a PDF.
  2. Personalize the release by replacing the bracketed information with details about you. Note: Newsrooms are often inundated with emails, so we recommend that you keep your release short and to the point.
  3. Identify the contact information for your local newspaper(s) and/or websites. To find that address, visit the paper’s website, and look for a “Contact Us” page. The newsroom email address should be on that page. If not, search for the editor of the regional edition of the paper and address the release to them.
  4. Copy your news release directly into the body of an email (do not send as an attachment) addressed to your local paper. Use the subject lines:
o “Local Resident Graduates from Lake Forest College”
o “Local Resident Inducted into Phi Beta Kappa at Lake Forest College”
o “Local Resident Receives Leadership Award at Lake Forest College”
o “Local Resident Receives Senior Honor from Lake Forest College”

If you have any questions about this process, please contact Linda Blaser, Director of News, Media, and Communications.
