Media Technologist

The Media Technologist is responsible for the design, operations, and support of audio-visual (AV) and related technologies in the College’s learning and meeting spaces, including classrooms, labs, and event spaces.

S/he will deliver “just-in-time” support to faculty, staff, and students in response to technical issues in these environments, provide documentation and training on how to use AV technologies. In addition, s/he will support AV services for academic and special events, including hybrid meetings, live streaming, event recordings, lecture capture, and the use of related equipment and technologies.

The Media Technologist will collaborate with other IT professionals as well as with Facilities Management, Conference and Event Services, Registrar’s Office, faculty, staff, and students to ensure efficient utilization, maintenance, inventory, and distribution of all AV equipment on campus. The position requires strong technical expertise in AV technology, broad user technical support experience, and a firm commitment to providing exceptional customer service.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Audio-Visual Technology Management & Maintenance (50%)

  • In collaboration with Academic Technology, evaluate, recommend, and assist with the planning, scheduling, and implementation of an AV technology refresh program for classrooms, labs, and other supported spaces.
  • Design and implement technology standards, procedures, and processes to ensure efficient utilization, maintenance, inventory, and distribution of AV technology in learning and meeting spaces.
  • Install, connect, and configure audio-visual components, equipment, and control systems.
  • Implement management tools for remote monitoring and support of classroom controllers, projectors, and other equipment.
  • Serve as a liaison with Facilities Management and Academic Technology on issues related to learning space maintenance.
  • Research, evaluate, and facilitate pilots of emerging technologies to enhance events support, and teaching and learning in classrooms and labs.

 

Coordination, Training, and Support (50%)

  • Provide AV services and support for in-person, hybrid, and remote events, including “signature events” at the College.
  • Assess technical requirements and provide solutions for audio-visual, web streaming, and/or video conferencing needs.
  • Provide technical and troubleshooting support for AV technology, in coordination with the ITS Service Desk and outside vendors, as needed.
  • Develop, maintain, and publish technical support documentation; assist in developing training materials and delivering individual and group training sessions on AV technologies. 
  • Work in a manner that is aware of personal safety and the safety of others, and observe safety, health and sanitation codes, regulations, or practices required by the College or governmental authorities.
  • Effectively carry out other duties, as assigned.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Supervision is received from the Director of User Services and Experience.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Work closely with student workers supporting ITS operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:                           

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of AV, IT, or technical support experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Expert knowledge of audio-visual and multimedia equipment, including control systems.
  • Experience supporting Apple and Windows-based computers, and iOS and Android tablets and mobile devices.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting skills with AV technologies including, but not limited to controllers, projectors, audio systems, interactive whiteboards, Apple and Windows-based computers, etc. and related software systems.
  • Ability to analyze technical problems involving the signal flow between IT and AV equipment, conduct testing, and research to determine appropriate solution.
  • Project and time management skills, with ability to effectively manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and customer service skills.

 

Desired Skills & Abilities

  • Experience supporting faculty, staff, and students in an academic environment.
  • Understanding of and experience with learning space design.
  • Extron experience and/or certification, including experience with Extron Configurator and GlobalViewer software programs.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and communicate technical concepts to individuals of all competency levels with tact, patience, and courtesy.
