Lecturer in Biology

March 24, 2023

The Biology Department at Lake Forest College seeks adjunct faculty members with a strong commitment to teaching and learning in a liberal arts college setting. The adjunct instructor will teach one or more Biology labs for which they are qualified in Spring and/or Fall, 2023, particularly the core course laboratories for BIOL 120, 220, or 221. Labs are already well established in the department. The adjunct instructor will work in person as Instructor of Record to teach one or two sections per semester of the laboratory, each having enrollment caps of 16, and will be part of a team having a lead faculty. Instructors will provide direction to students in assigned subject areas, monitor student progress including in their presentations of primary research articles, report outcomes and grades to the lead faculty, oversee undergraduate teaching assistants, and refer students for additional support services. The lab lecture materials and experiments, grading standards, attendance policies, assessments, and other processes are well established.

PhD preferred and MS required in Biology, or in a closely related field. Expertise in appropriate technologies and one year of teaching experience is preferred, but not required. Lake Forest College works on the semester system (see the academic calendar for dates), and six hours are required, including one four-hour block for teaching lab (12-3:50 PM), one coordination hour with lab-teaching team, and one office hour per week. Compensation is competitive, and we provide excellent mentoring of undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts college setting.

A highly selective liberal arts college located on Chicago’s North Shore, Lake Forest College enrolls approximately 1,700 students from more than 40 states and from more than 100 countries.
