Freelance Director

The Theater Department at Lake Forest College is seeking a Freelance Director to direct a short outdoor play this coming September/October.

Applications are due ASAP/no later than Fri. Aug. 20, 5pm.

We welcome ideas on which play it will be. Most likely, it will be a play with minimal technical requirements and on the short side, possibly a one-act about an hour long. The department faculty will aid in play selection with a short list of suggested materials or plays, if needed.

The show will go up in mid-October, possibly for two weekends.

The Theater Department is constructing a small outdoor open-air venue in the style of an Elizabethan or Renaissance traveling play.

Rehearsals will begin in early September and run through the opening in mid-October.

Lake Forest College requires masks indoors, and vaccination is required for all students.

The schedule of rehearsals is negotiable and dependent on the director’s schedule as well as the schedules of the student actors. In the past, rehearsals have often taken place on a few weekday evenings 7-10 pm, and perhaps one on the weekend in the afternoon.

Some work via Zoom may be possible.

Pay is $2500 plus $15 travel stipend per day that the director comes to campus. We are open to hearing from recent BFA and MFA graduates.
