Director of Facilities Management

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Facilities Management directs the design, planning, construction and maintenance of the College’s facilities and properties. Responsible for developing budgets and long-range facilities plans based on the College’s growth and future needs. Oversees the functioning of all building systems including mechanical, electrical, fire/life safety, plumbing, and waste management. Monitors budgets and approves contracts. Oversees contractors involved in facility projects and delivery of services.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership and planning for all College facilities operations.
  • Ensure that the students and employees of the college have a safe, clean, and well-maintained physical environment that is responsive to all stakeholders.
  • Lead the divisions of Heating Plant, Carpentry, Grounds, and Administrative staff.
  • Oversee the maintenance management system and provide for systematic plans for maintenance, cleaning and grounds work.
  • Oversee outsourced custodial contract.
  • Oversee selection of subcontractors through competitive bidding. 
  • Provide vision, direction and support to all facilities management staff ensuring objectives are attained and feedback is provided through the College evaluation process.
  • Provide a high level of customer service and ensure that Facilities Management’s staff are responsive and courteous in all endeavors.
  • Prepare and recommend the annual Operations and Maintenance budget and provide on-going budget management.
  • Prepare and recommend a 10 year Capital Plan. Contribute to strategic planning by evaluating and projecting future facility needs and proposing options to achieve them.
  • Guide the completion of the college Master Plan and oversee implementation of approved projects.
  • Coordinate and assist with the planning and implementation of remodeling and new construction projects; serve as liaison with architects, engineers and other contractors to ensure the interests of the college are protected.
  • Maintain good relationship with the city of Lake Forest and various committees, including Zoning Board, Historical Preservation and Appearance Commission. Obtain permits and inspections with the City. Develop specifications for cost-effective campus energy management systems
  • Participate in College efforts to improve sustainable operations. 
  • Ensure the proper disposal of hazardous and controlled wastes in compliance with regulations and guidelines; works directly with outside agencies such as OSHA, and local and state health departments as required.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Five years of leadership/administrative experience.
  • Demonstrated technical understanding of the plant and maintenance operation. Renovation and/or construction management experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with college employees, students, and governing boards.
  • Experience in operational and strategic planning as well as budget development
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations. Ability to effectively communicate ideas and information in written and oral format.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Illinois Driver’s License.
