Panopto Quick Start for iOS

Download App and Initial Login

  1. To download Panopto, open the App Store app on your phone.

  2. Search for Panopto. Download and open it.

  3. The first time you launch the app, it will request to send you notifications. Tap on Allow.

  4. To sign in to Panopto, enter your Lake Forest email address and tap on Next.

Note: You may enter your email address either with or without the “mx,” (e.g., jsmythe@lakeforest.eduor jsmythe@mx.lakeforest.edu).

  1. Panopto will take you to the Lake Forest College Panopto site. At the College site, you will log on through Moodle. Tap on the red Sign In button.

  2. Enter your Moodle user name and password. This is the same password you use to login to your College email and to my.lakeforest. Press Log in.

After you log in, you will see a list of all video sessions available to you.

How to Record

  1. Before you begin, you should:
    • Be sure your phone is fully charged or you are connected to a charger while recording.
    • Verify that you have enough space on your device to store a video of the length you plan to record.
    • Connect to WiFi so uploading your recording to Panopto will go much more quickly. You can find information about how to connect to the College’s wireless network at http://www.lakeforest.edu/offices/it/network.php.
  2. For iOS, you record and upload within the app. To do so, open the Panopto app, login if you have not done so already, and tap the menu icon in the upper-left corner.

  1. Choose Record & upload.

  1. Choose the class folder where you want to upload the file. In this example, the course is COMM 110.

  2. Give your video a title that matches what your instructor has asked for your assignment and press the Start recording button.

  3. The first time you use Panopto to record, you will be prompted to press OK to allow the app to access the camera.

  4. Next, press OK to allow the app to access the microphone.

  5. cameraTap the camera icon to switch between the front-facing and rear cameras.
  6. Otherwise, be sure the subject you are recording is clearly visible on the screen. When you are ready, press the red record button to make your video.

  7. Play your completed video. To re-record the whole thing, press Retake. When you’re satisfied, press Use Video.

  8. Press Upload to submit your video. After the file finishes uploading, the video will say processing. After that completes, the video will be available to you and your instructor for viewing.

Upload a Video Recorded Earlier 

  1. Before you begin, you should:
    • Be sure your phone is fully charged or you are connected to a charger while uploading.
    • Connect to Wi-Fi so uploading your recording to Panopto will go much more quickly. You can find information about how to connect to the College’s wireless network at http://www.lakeforest.edu/offices/it/network.php.
  2. To upload a video you have already recorded, open the Panopto app, login if you are not already, and tap the menu icon in the upper-left corner.

  1. Choose Record & upload. Select the folder where you want the video to go.

  2. Pick Choose a Video. Pick Videos from the list on your phone, and browse through the movies to find your video.

  1. Select the video. It will take a minute to process.

  2. When the video appears in the full screen, tap on Choose.

  3. Your phone will compress the video, and then ask for permission to access your photos. Press OK.

  4. Tap Upload and it will place the video in the folder you chose.

  5. Choose the class folder where you want to upload the file. In this example, the course is COMM 110.
  6. Once the video successfully uploads, delete it from your iPhone by selecting the trash can.

  7. After the file finishes uploading, the video will indicate it is processing. After that completes, the video will be available to you and your instructor for viewing.
