Q. How do I add a video I found on the web to Moodle?
A. Add as a URL resource directly in Moodle. It’s not necessary to use Panopto to place a link to a video onto your course page.

A. Every movie in Panopto has a unique URL. In Panopto, copy the movie’s link and add as a URL resource in Moodle.

Q. How do I access recordings via Moodle?
A. In your course, turn editing on, and add the Panopto block. To allow student uploads, add the Panopto activity. To add links to Panopto videos directly on your course page, display the video in Panopto and copy the URL. On your Moodle course page, turn editing on, and select URL from the Add an Activity Resource list, and choose Add. Paste the URL for the Panopto video into the External URL box.

A. All videos are in Panopto. Have the student log into Panopto. Choose Browse, and then My Folders. These are the only folders they are allowed to upload videos into.

Q. Who can see what is uploaded to Panopto?
A. Each video can have a unique set of viewing permissions. Instructors can make videos available for course viewing. Student assignments are viewable only by that student and the instructor. Everyone gets a My Folder. Videos you upload there are private to you. You may share your videos with others.

Q. A student accidentally recorded a video for another student under their login. How do I change the access to the Panopto file to the student who actually did the presentation?
A. Instructors have Creator access to assignment folders. With this type of access, they can rename, edit, and delete student assignments.

A. To make a video available to the class, copy or move it into the class folder. Use the Share button to allow access to a select group of students.

A. Use a browser (not the app) to log onto Panotpto. Choose Settings under the video. Under the title, choose Edit.

Q. I think I just deleted student videos. Can they be recovered?
A. Panopto will retain deleted videos for 90 days. Contact the ITS Service Desk to have the video restored.

Q. I want to set my phone to record my whole class. How much phone space do I need? How much battery life do I need? How much time can I anticipate the upload to take?
A. The storage required is 4mb/minute (240mb/hour). To record an entire class, plug your device in while you record. An entire class session may take 10-20 minutes to completely upload. If you close the app, the video will continue to upload in the background. Please contact the ITS Service Desk if you are unable to completely upload videos from your mobile device.

Q. Can I transfer Panopto files from my phone to my computer and have my computer be uploading while I’m doing other things? What is the best way to do this?
A. iPhone users can copy the video to their computer using iTunes. Android users can copy the video from storage by mounting the storage as a drive. Contact the Service Desk for assistance.

Q. Can a student continue to edit a Panopto file after they’ve uploaded it?
A. Students can continue to edit their videos in the assignments folder. In Settings, instructors can close the assignment folder. This will prevent students from accessing and adding content to the assignment folder. The instructor will still have access.

A. Upload your lecture video to your course folder. Enrolled students can view the video but not delete it.
